ILLNESS GUIDELINES: WHEN DO I KEEP MY CHILD HOME

To ensure the health and safety of all students, staff, and families, we ask that you review the following guidelines. These measures help us prevent the spread of illness and maintain a healthy environment.

Tips for Preventing Illness: Encourage regular handwashing with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. Teach children to cover coughs/sneezes with their elbow or a tissue. Ensure your child is up-to-date on vaccinations. Keep a healthy routine with balanced meals, physical activity, proper hydration and enough rest.

RED LIGHT: Students STAY HOME

It is recommended your child be evaluated by a physician if they are experiencing the following:
● Fever 100.4°F (38°C) or higher
● Diarrhea
● Vomiting
● Severe Sore throat (Could be strep, which is highly contagious)
● Eyes that are: Red, Pink, or itchy and/or experiencing green or yellow discharge
● Flu/Covid-like symptoms: chills, body aches, low energy
*Students need to be FREE from these symptoms for 24 HOURS without the use of medication before returning to school
*If your child is taking an antibiotic they need to be on it for a full 24 HOURS before returning to school

YELLOW LIGHT: Use Your Best Judgment

If you think your child seems under the weather, consider contacting their physician if they are experiencing the following:
● Cold Symptoms: Runny nose that is green & thick, consistent cough
● Sore Throat: Could be the start of strep throat, which is highly contagious
● Low Energy: If your child has a bad cold, has no energy or requires any type of medicine to get through the day

*If your child has these symptoms and you feel they should go to the doctor, please keep them home from school

GREEN LIGHT: Students ATTEND SCHOOL
● Your child has allergies and has a clear runny nose or mild cough
● Your child has been sick and is feeling better and has been FEVER FREE for 24 HOURS without fever-reducing medication

General Guidelines for Returning to School:
Your child should feel well enough to participate in all school activities, including all class work and recess. Ensure your child has had a nutritious meal, water, and a good night's rest before returning. If your child requires medication during the school day, please submit the necessary forms to the school nurse.
