Dear Fox Hill Families,

It is hard to believe but we are ready to start the 2021-2022 school year. Through all the interesting weather conditions this summer, I hope you all were able to find some time to relax and decompress. As we enter what is going to be the third school year in some way impacted by Covid-19, I start this year with hope. As a Fox Hill community, we have adapted the way school looks but some things have never changed. The priority is, and will always be, doing what’s best for every student. That is the creed that our community lives by. Students had many different learning experiences last year, but Fox Hill educators are ready to make the learning and social emotional well being of every child their top priority.

If you asked me in the spring, my expectation was that we would be moving away from Covid. Unfortunately, we are not there yet. We will continue to have protocols in place to keep all students safe. Even with another Covid impacted school year, it is time to see our students thrive in the midst of uncertain times. At Fox Hill, we are ready to go and look forward to being on this year’s educational journey together.

I would like to share with you some important information for the upcoming school year.

First Day of School for Students
Grades 1-5 will be on Monday, August 30th.
Kindergarten will be on Thursday, September 9th.

School Hours
Arrival- 7:55am-8:10am
School Day- 8:10am-2:15pm
Students arriving after 8:10am will be considered tardy.

Our arrival and dismissal process is returning to the way it was prior to last year. In the morning, if you are dropping off your child by car, when you pull into the school please enter the access road which will be on your right. Follow the road all the way to the end, where a staff member will help your child get out of the car. Children will then walk into the front door of the building. If it is after 8:10, please park in the lot and walk your child to the front door. For dismissal, please use the same access road and pull up to the side recess doors. Children from all grades will be waiting there. To move the flow of traffic, please stay in your car during both arrival and dismissal. A staff member will be there to help your child into or out of your vehicle.

Bus routes are available as of today. The routes and times will be posted on the Burlington Public Schools website and emailed out from the Fox Hill office. There are no capacity restrictions on buses this year, but all students must wear a mask when traveling on the bus. Buses will drop students off at the front entrance of Fox Hill, and they will enter the building through the front doors.

Students are continued to be encouraged to walk or bike to school. We have two bicycle racks in the front of the building for students to use. Please bring a lock if you are planning to use the bicycle rack.

Burlington Public Schools policy is that all students, staff, and visitors to school buildings must wear a face mask when indoors. Masks do not need to be worn for outdoor activities. Students will have regularly scheduled mask breaks throughout the day.

Classroom Safety Protocols
At Fox Hill, all students will be seated at desks with at least three foot distancing. Students will frequently wash and sanitize their hands especially before and after eating and when sharing any materials. Drinking fountains will be closed, but water filling stations will still be available. All classrooms will have air purifiers and windows will be open to increase ventilation and the circulation of outside air.

In order to maximize social distancing, lunch will once again be served in the classroom this year. Classes will go outside for lunch as often as the weather permits. If there is a student with a food allergy, then the entire class will be nut-free. The nurses, Mrs. Roosevelt and Mrs. O’Donnell, will be sending notifications to nut-free classrooms before the start of the school year. For the upcoming school year, lunch will be free for all students.

Contact Tracing/Quarantine Policies
The district is finalizing the policies for contact tracing and quarantining and information will be shared before school begins.

I hope this information answers any questions you may have about the start of the school year, but if you have any further questions please feel free to reach out. I look forward to a great school year.
