Fox Hill Weekly Update, November 5

November Update from Mr. Rosenblatt

November is typically a busy time at Fox Hill and this year we are busier than ever. Students are adjusted within their classroom communities and learn exciting new things every day. There will be a lot happening this month, and I’d like to provide you with a few important updates.

Cafeteria: With our local Covid-19 positivity rate remaining low, all Burlington Public Schools elementary schools will be moving back to eating in cafeterias. This will happen at Fox Hill on Monday, November 15. Students will sit at an assigned table with their homeroom. Masks will be required to be worn while students are picking up their lunches and immediately after they finish eating.

Response to Intervention (RTI): This month we will begin reimplementing our Response to Intervention (RTI) practices that had to be sidelined due to the pandemic. Utilizing our universal assessment data, students may switch to a different reading teacher who will offer targeted instruction that best meets the needs of all students. This practice allows us to provide additional support or extension as needed. We will also be providing small group instruction during the grade level intervention block. This is another targeted skill based approach which will help maximize the success of our students.

Be the 1: One upcoming highlight is our first whole school Be the 1 reward of the year. Students have done an incredible job of exemplifying our school values of safety, kindness, respect, and responsibility. As a result, they have earned enough Be the 1 tickets for a whole school Rock Paper Scissors tournament and dance party on Friday, November 12. I will be sure to share the highlights on our website and Instagram.

No School Dates: Like every November, there are a few days off throughout the month. Please take note of the following days off this month:

  • November 8-Student Conferences
  • November 11-Veterans Day
  • November 24-Early Dismissal
  • November 25 & 26-Thanksgiving Break

Thank you for your continued partnership in making Fox Hill a place where students can be successful and thrive. Please do not hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or need additional support.

Fox Hill Health Office Update

COVID Vaccine
The COVID Vaccine has been approved for emergency use for children ages 5-11. The Burlington Public School district is offering vaccine clinics at Burlington High evening 1-2 evenings per month. Visit the BPS website for updated information. Other locations that are providing the pediatric COVID vaccine are pediatrician offices, CVS, and Walgreens. You may also visit Massachusetts vaxfinder website to find more locations. Visit mass.gov for more information regarding the pediatric COVID vaccine.

  • The colder weather is quickly arriving. Please send your child to school with weather appropriate clothing (Jacket, hat, gloves, etc…). Students do go outside daily.
  • Accidents happen (bathroom accidents, spilled drink, splash in puddle, etc…). The Health Office does have extra clothing, but we do not always have your child’s size. We suggest packing an extra pair of clothing in your child’s backpack for this reason.
  • The Health Office could use some donations of underwear. We are in need of both boys and girls new underwear, size 5 - 10. Thank you!

It is important that school is a safe and healthy environment for every individual that enters the building. We ask that you contact the school nurse and keep your child at home if he/she/they is experiencing any of the following symptoms:

  • Fever (100 degrees Fahrenheit or higher), chills, or shaking chills
  • Cough (not due to other known cause, such as chronic cough
  • Difficulty breathing or shortness of breath
  • New loss of taste or smell
  • Sore throat
  • Headache (when in combination with other symptoms)
  • Muscle aches or body aches
  • Nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea
  • Fatigue (when in combination with other symptoms)
  • New rash
  • Nasal congestion or runny nose

If your child was exposed to an individual who tested positive for COVID-19 or if your child tested positive for COVID-19, keep your child home and contact the school nurse at 781-270-1792 and Burlington Board of Health at 781-270-1955.
