Executive Summary of Professional Development Survey for 2024-2025

Introduction
This report is divided into four sections. Section one is the timeframe in which the survey was administered. Section two accounts for the number of staff who responded. Section three details the results and the analysis of the survey provided to staff. Section four discusses next steps.

Section One: Timeframe
In an effort to learn more about the types of professional development to offer staff for 2024-2025, the Instructional Team created a survey that was launched on Monday, February 5 with a closing date of Friday, February 16. Email reminders were sent to all staff on Tuesday, February 13 and then on Thursday, February 15.

Section Two: Number of Staff
Out of 552 active staff, 355 staff responded with a response rate of 64%.

Section Three: Results and Analysis of the Survey
Table 1 outlines who responded. 193 teachers, 43 counselors, 20 department heads, 45 instructional assistants, 30 specialists, 13 administrators, and 11 other staff responded.

Table 3 identifies areas of additional staff development to promote effective instructional strategies and teaching methods.

When asked to provide specific details on the aforementioned question (i.e., instructional strategies and teaching methods to tailor professional development), there were 221 responses. The following were themes articulated by staff:

- Artificial Intelligence, ChatGPT, and Instructional Technology Applications
- Co-Teaching Strategies
- English Learner Education Strategies
- Science of Reading
- SEL Training and Trauma Informed Practice
- Special Education
- Specific Professional Development Catered to Departments
- Tier I Instruction and Teaching to All Students
- Time to Collaborate with Other Staff Members
- Writing

Table 4 identifies specific areas of additional professional development opportunities.
English Learner Education Practices and Strategies, Behavior and Classroom Management, Student Engagement, and Culturally Relevant Practices ranked the highest in the number of responses while Portrait of a Graduate and Anti-Racist Practices and Strategies had the fewest responses from staff.

When asked to provide specific details on the aforementioned question (i.e., responses to specific areas of additional professional development opportunities), there were 156 responses. The following were themes articulated by staff:

- English Learner Education Practices and Strategies
- Instructional Technology
- Scaffolding (Differentiation)
- Social Emotional Learning (SEL)

When staff were asked for additional questions or comments, 89 staff responded. The following are the themes:

- English Learner Education Practices and Strategies
- Mini Professional Development Sessions
- Scheduling Professional Development
- Smaller Group Sizes
- Specialized Professional Development
- Time to Collaborate

Section Four - Next Steps
As a next step, the Instructional Team will discuss the results with principals, share the information with staff, and use this information to plan out future professional development for staff in 2024-2025 that will address key themes brought up by staff.

We will work in conjunction with the principals and department heads to plan out professional development for 2024-2025.

Part of the agenda meetings at the weekly District-Level Instructional Team Meetings will be dedicated and focused on planning the professional development for 2024-2025.
