District Curriculum Accommodations Plan - DCAP

Massachusetts General Laws Chapter 71, Section 38Q1/2

Massachusetts General Law requires the adoption and implementation of a District Curriculum Accommodation Plan (DCAP) intended to guide principals and teachers in ensuring that all possible efforts are made to meet student’s needs in general education. The plan is designed to assist general educators in accommodating the diverse learning styles and needs of all students and in providing appropriate services and support within the general education programming. The plan provides teachers and schools with strategies to ensure equitable access to learning and growth for all.

Section 38Q1/2

“A staircase separates one floor from another; a ramp connects them.”-  Le Corbusier, architect

The Burlington Public Schools District works collaboratively with caregivers, educators, and the community to ensure all students receive the support they need in the least restrictive environment, enabling them to grow emotionally, socially, and academically. By prioritizing equitable opportunities and access, the district helps students develop the skills, tools, and mindsets necessary for living fulfilling, productive lives. The Burlington Public Schools DCAP details evidence-based teaching strategies and practices that benefit students and allow them to fully engage in their learning, regardless of course content or level.

The strategies in the Burlington Public Schools DCAP are tools to build ramps in our classrooms, allowing all students to access curriculum and instruction in a way that supports their learning and growth.

BPS educators seeking support in understanding and implementing these strategies should connect with their building-based curriculum and instruction leaders, department chairs, and/or coaches.
