I wanted to start this weekly update with a reflection. We closed schools on March 12th two years ago with the intention of coming back in two weeks. In what feels like a decade, we returned to what appeared like a more typical school environment on Monday with masks being optional. While I am not qualified to categorize the status of the global pandemic, it seems like we are shifting into managing the virus as one of many illnesses we need to consider. We know that many families were directly impacted by the pandemic. Any relief in moving past the pandemic needs to be combined with compassion for those families who experienced loss.

As a school district, I am incredibly proud of the efforts of our educators and support staff to keep the focus on student well being and learning during these two years. We all had to learn and to apply new skills in real time as safety protocols dictated changes to classrooms. Thank you. Gratitude also needs to be extended to our families and students. Your compliance with safety protocols and patience with constant changes were impressive. Thank you.

Equity Audit
We are about to start the visitation part of the Equity Audit process across the district. Please know that the commitment to an Equity Audit began three years ago as a part of our District Improvement Plan and was included in my professional practice goal.

Why do an Equity Audit?
The audit is about the institution as a whole and the values expressed by the institution when compared to outcomes. I thought it important to have a baseline of information from a lens different from my own. Like any audit, the intention of this information is to help us improve.
