COVID Update
For the third consecutive week, we have seen a rise in the number of reported Covid cases in the district. At the time of this recording, we have had 106 cases reported this week. The breakdown by school is four at BECC, 13 at BHS, 12 at Fox Hill, 17 at Francis Wyman, 39 at Memorial, six at Pine Glen and 14 at Marshall Simonds. As was stated in our message on Tuesday to families, given this trend, we are advocating for the CDC recommendation that individuals voluntarily "mask-up" until the higher COVID-19 rates subside in Middlesex County.

As the number of cases we report result from families self-reporting, our numbers are only as accurate as the information we receive. While we are not mandating mask wearing… again, while we are NOT requiring mask wearing, we want families to know that our numbers are up - most likely higher than reported. We strongly recommend that masks be worn indoors especially if there is a medically compromised family member at home.

Let’s Talk About It
Our final Let’s Talk About It will be held this coming Wednesday Night at 7 p.m. Anyone who would like to join the virtual conversation can register at bit.ly/letstalkburlington

Safe Routes to Schools
Please watch for a survey regarding how your children get to school. The 2 minute survey will help us to answer how our elementary and middle school students get to and from school. The survey is a part of our partnership with Safe Routes to School. The information will assist us in making changes that better support our transportation needs. And, if half of a schools’ families participate, the school will be eligible for a state safety incentive package.

The survey will be sent out on Monday, May 16th and close on Friday, May 27th.

Seal of Biliteracy
I am borrowing from an announcement from Renee Dacy, the high foreign language department chair. Ms. Dacy announced the exciting news of our students' success with the Seal of Biliteracy program this year. For those not familiar with the program, it is a statewide and nationwide program that recognizes students that are bilingual in English and a second language. Students have to demonstrate an intermediate to advanced level of speaking, reading, writing, and listening in the second language and they must receive a sufficient score on the English Language Arts MCAS exam.

This year Burlington High School had 14 students recognized - two with distinction - in five languages including Spanish, Armenian, Hindi, Portuguese, and Latin. Congratulations to these students and their teachers for this recognition

Thank you to Town Meeting
On behalf of the School Committee, our entire staff, and students, I wanted to say thank you to Town Meeting for approving our operating budget for next year and critical upgrades that will improve student access and expand the use of some of our existing facilities.

Finally, BHS Jr. Sr. Prom
The BHS Jr. Sr. Prom is tonight. We all celebrate the return of many high school traditions and rites of passage this spring. We hope everyone enjoys themselves and makes good decisions.

Thank you and have a great weekend.
