April Break

Just a reminder that there is no school April 15th through the 19th for the April break.  School will be back in session on Monday, April 22, 2019.

MCAS

This week, we completed our first round of MCAS testing.  We are so proud of how much effort and perseverance our students demonstrated as they applied the reading and writing skills that they have learned throughout the years to complete the assessment.   Students who were absent for one or both of the sessions will be able to make the missed sessions when we return from break.

April Assemblies

Grade level assemblies have been a long standing tradition at MSMS. This week, students at each grade level participated in an assembly meant to build community, showcase their hard work, and celebrate their success.  We had a great time at each of the grade level assemblies, which included performances from our music department, trivia, sing-a-longs, performances by the G-Block Drifters, and Evolution of Dance. The grade 8 assembly was the first ever annual March (ok- April) Madness Basketball Tournament organized by Teen Light.

Quarter 3

Hard copies of the Quarter 3 report cards were sent home with students on Thursday, April 11th.  We encourage you to review it with your child, celebrate their successes and set goals for the fourth and final quarter.  If you have any questions or concerns, you are encouraged to contact your child’s teacher or guidance counselor.

This quarter we piloted the publishing of a digital copy of the report card to the Aspen Family Portal.  The primary contact for each student in our student information system was sent an email with instructions for accessing the digital report card around 3pm on Thursday, April 11th.  If you did not receive the email, please check your Junk/SPAM folder, because the message originates from our student information system, Aspen.

If you are not regularly accessing Aspen and know your username, but are not sure of your password, you should be able to reset your password using the “I forgot my password” link on the login page.  If you are unsure of your username or have trouble logging in, please reach out to the Student Information Office by sending an email to studentinfo@bpsk12.org.

Principal’s Coffee Hour

We are getting closer to finalizing a draft of a new schedule and we are looking forward to sharing it with families during our next Principal Coffee Hour on Thursday, April 25, 2019.  We have scheduled two times on that day, 8:00 am and 6:00 pm, to accommodate families. We are excited to share this new schedule with families, answer questions, and get your feedback.

In addition, there will be an information bazaar where students can learn more about STEM-related extracurricular activities in high school and college. Students will work in groups to apply their knowledge of STEM, brainstorm solutions to today’s most pressing issues, and present their ideas in creative, compelling ways to a diverse audience. There will be judges for the projects and the winners will receive a prize.
