Full Return Updates

Quarter 4 Homerooms

Students and families will receive notification of their Quarter 4 homeroom on Friday, April 9, 2021 after 3:00pm. This communication will be posted on the Aspen portal.  Please make sure that you are able to access the portal before Friday.

If you have trouble accessing Aspen, do not know your account information or need your account reset, please send a message to the Student Information Office at studentinfo@bpsk12.org.  Please make sure to include your child’s name, school, and grade level in your message.

If students are having trouble accessing Aspen, they can send a message to aspen@bpsk12.org

“Streaming” and Remote Access Update

With the full return of students and the end of hybrid learning, there is no longer a need for us to “stream” in every classroom. Depending on the number of students who remained fully remote, there will be one or two streaming homerooms on each team. If a student will be absent for multiple days for a Covid-19 related reason or other documented medical reason, the student will be given access to the virtual classrooms. If a student is absent for travel or other reasons, remote access will not be possible.

Google Classroom and Trimester 3 Grades

In preparation for the upcoming classroom adjustments we wanted to give you a quick update.  In preparation for the change, teachers will start to add students to their new Google Classrooms beginning April 16th.  This year in response to the circumstances created by hybrid learning, our teachers have demonstrated more flexibility with accepting late work. We are asking students to submit any pre-vacation late assignments to teachers by Friday, April 30th.  With the hard deadline of the 30th and with Monday, May 3rd marking the midpoint of the trimester, teachers will be able to update the portal for the progress report and then update Google Classrooms.

Transportation

Bus Routes

The central office has been working with the bus company to combine the Cohort A and Cohort B bus routes.  We anticipate that updated routes will be available the week before April Break.

Drop-off

Morning Drop-off begins at 7:15 am and continues through 7:35.  When dropping your child off in the morning, please pull all the way forward in the loop. Students can walk to the auditorium door or to the entrances in the front of the building. Pulling forward allows more children to get safely dropped off at a time and prevents traffic backing up onto the street. It is our intent to keep the morning drop-off traffic pattern the same.  If you are towards the back of the line and see that other cars are in the process of unloading, please wait a few extra seconds and pull all the way forward.  If we notice that traffic is backing up onto Peach Orchard Road, we will need to begin to have families make their way to the back of the gym (like we do for pick-up).

We are noticing that families are arriving closer to 7:35 am.  It is strongly encouraged that you adjust your morning routine now in anticipation of the increase of traffic volume beginning on April 26.

Pick-up

In order to accommodate the additional traffic in the afternoon, we will be establishing a second pick-up area. Please see this graphic to help you visualize the two pick-up areas.

  • We will be asking families of students in the original Cohort B to continue to use the established procedure for picking students up on the Peach Orchard side.

  • Families of students in the original Cohort A will be asked to approach the middle school using the Locust Street entrance (at the bottom of the hill by the football field). Cars will be asked to form a line starting at the basketball nets across from the cafe and wait until the buses safely load and leave the middle school campus. Once all buses have left the front loop, cars will make their way around to the front of the bus loop. Cars should pull all the way forward to the dumpster, so that we can load as many cars as possible at one time.  Vehicles will then proceed down the hill and exit at Locust Street.

We wanted to remind families who are picking up their child to follow the established pick-up procedures.  Please make sure that you are pulling all the way forward in the loop (whether approaching from Locust Street or Peach Orchard Road.  Please do not stop where your child is waiting. Pulling forward allows more cars to be in position to safely pick-up children and makes the pick-up process faster for everyone.  We anticipate that you will have a shorter wait if you arrive after 1:55 pm. Officer Costa has arranged for an increased police presence the first week of our full return. We will be assessing the plan once it is put into action and will make adjustments as necessary.

Health and Safety Reminders

Requirements After Travel

In advance of the April Break, here is BPS Requirements to Return to School After Traveling for domestic and international travel.

Please remember that our students’ actions outside of school have the potential to impact the entire school community. It is important to remain vigilant in your efforts to reduce the spread of Covid-19 and continue to adhere to the following guidelines:

  • Families must complete the Daily Health Screening Checklist for each student every morning to ensure it is safe for them to go to school.

  • Students who are sent home from school with symptoms or absent with symptoms will be required to show a negative molecular Covid result prior to returning to in-person classes or remain home for ten days to ensure students are Covid-free. Please forward test results to the MSMS nurses Leigh McGillivray at lmcgillivray@bpsk12.org or Olive Schulze at oschulze@bpsk12.org, or the doctor’s office can fax it to 781-270-1696. It is important to note that if you have other children in the Burlington Public Schools, they may not return to school until your ill child is symptom free or your ill child has a negative molecular Covid test.

Fundraiser

Back by popular demand, our discount card fundraiser starts this week!  This year's card features a bunch of great local restaurants and businesses, plus an app with discounts that can be used nationwide so you don't have to limit the sales to just local residents! AND all of these discounts can be used ALL year long every time the card holder visits one of the establishments. This fundraiser is a great opportunity for the school to earn much needed money, the kids to earn some great prizes and help our local businesses.

Attached please find the parent information letter which includes details on how to get started, all the prizes the kids are eligible for, etc.  The students watched an informational video this past week in school. If you have any questions please feel free to reach out to us at msmspto01803@gmail.com.

Please return any cash or checks collected to the main office no later than Friday, April 16th in a sealed envelope with the students name, homeroom number and listing PTO fundraiser.
