Last Day of School

The last day of school for the 2020-2021 school year is Wednesday, June 16, 2021. This is an early release day for students and dismissal will be at 10:15 am.

End of Year Celebrations

Earlier this week we celebrated our grade 8 students at the Promotion Ceremony, they will have their Final Fling on Friday, 6/11 (a reminder email will be sent out tomorrow), and Tuesday, 6/15 will be the grade 8 Battle Royale. Many of the teams in grades 6 & 7 have planned different activities to close out the year. As many of the activities will be held outside, please make sure your child is coming to school with sunscreen on, dressed for the weather (hats encouraged), and a refillable water bottle (we have water filling stations available through the school building).

India COVID Relief Fundraiser

The MSMS Student Council and the MSMS Equity Committee have partnered in an effort to raise funds for the victims of Covid-19 in India. Many in our school community have family and friends who have been affected by this devastating virus. Anyone  interested in supporting this cause can put a cash donation in the large canisters that have been placed outside the main office. Thank you for your support.

iPad Collection

Hybrid and remote learning has resulted in our educators consistently integrating technology into instruction.  Next year, students in grades 6-8 will continue to take home a school issued iPad to support their learning beyond the school day.  Please see below for important information regarding iPad collection for the summer.

Students in Grades 6 & 7

We will be collecting student iPads, cases, and cords/brick from students attending in person  on Friday, June 11, 2021.  Students who are participating in the fully remote model will be expected to drop off their devices and other school materials on Wednesday, June 16, 2021 or Thursday, June 17, 2021.  More specific instructions will be communicated as those dates approach.

Students in Grade 8 Attending Burlington High School

Students in grade 8, whether in person or fully remote, will keep their school issued iPad, case, and cord/brick for use through Burlington High School.

Students in Grade 8 Not Attending Burlington High School

Students who are not attending Burlington High School will be expected to return their device.  Students who are engaged in in-person instruction will have their iPad, case, and cord/brick collected by homeroom teachers on Friday, June 11, 2021.  Students who are fully remote and not attending Burlington High School will return their iPad, case, and cord/brick on Wednesday, June 16, 2021 or Thursday, June 17, 2021.

Damaged iPads

If a device is damaged, it is the responsibility of the family to have it fixed prior to returning the device. Here are the instructions for how to go about putting in a claim (if you purchased insurance). If there is damage to the case, cord, or brick, families will be issued a bill for a replacement item. These steps are necessary to make sure that all students will have the necessary device when we return in the fall.

School Materials Return

Students who are participating in the fully remote model will be asked to return their school issued materials (textbooks, iPad, etc.) on Wednesday, June 16th between 11:00 am and 3:00 pm or Thursday, June 17th between 8:00 am and 3:00 pm. Please have your child’s materials labeled with their name, grade, and homeroom teacher so that we are able to update our records. Families should plan on returning their materials and their school issued iPad at the same time.

Teachers will begin collecting textbooks and other school issued materials next week.  Families of students who do not return their materials will be sent a letter asking for the item(s) to be returned or will be presented with a bill for the lost item.

School Counseling Newsletter

While many students and families look forward to the end of the year, the unstructured summer days can be a source of stress and anxiety for some.  Here is a link to the MSMS Counseling Department website and to the summer newsletter.

Summer Reading and Math

Marshall Simonds Middle School wants you to have a wonderful summer filled with sun, fun, and reading!  Research shows that participating in summer reading boosts academic achievement and prevents a summer slump. We are hopeful that all members of our community will continue to read for pleasure this summer. Please see the document below with MSMS summer reading program for 2021.
