The latest News from Marshall Simonds Middle School

Halloween, 2018!
As you know, tomorrow is Halloween, which creates a lot of excitement and energy for our students!  We have planned Grade Level Assemblies to harness some of the excitement (we hope our 7th graders enjoyed today) and are looking forward to having some fun alongside our students! We have been getting a lot of questions from students about if they are allowed to wear costumes to school tomorrow.  What we have communicated to students is that if they choose to wear a part of a costume it can not disrupt the learning environment for them or other students.  Students will not be able to change into or out of their costume during the day, so they should make sure that what they where is comfortable and not too hot.  Students are prohibited from wearing a mask or bringing any accessories/props that resemble weapons in any way. It is recommended that students where a small part of their of their costume, like a shirt, cape, to show spirit without getting carried away.  Students will be asked to change out of costumes that are deemed inappropriate for school.

Thank you, in advance, for your assistance in helping your child make good choices on Wednesday!

Student Meetings

This past week, Mr. Murphy and I will be meeting with students by team.  The purpose of these meetings are to acknowledge the many positive things that we are seeing around the building and to discuss opportunities for continued growth.  We clarified our expectations about student behavior in the hallway, shared the importance of demonstrating respect to all members of our community, and the need for students to “do their job” and work hard in their classes.  We also communicated an upcoming opportunity for students to participate in focus groups (more details to follow soon).

After School Activities

Marshall Simonds Middle School is excited to continue two, popular after school programs.  Please read below and complete the appropriate pre-registration form if your child is interested in either of these programs.

National History Day- New Offering

National History Day is on its way to MSMS. Students will select a topic to research and  then create an exhibit, documentary, website, etc. to show what they’ve learned. Students will compete locally against other middle schoolers for chances to go to the state competition in April. So grab a friend or two or three(or work independently) and join Mrs. Sturtevant and Mr. Carroll in this new adventure!!

Intramurals

The Marshall Simonds Middle School Intramural program is a fun, low stress learning opportunity for all students in grades 6-8. This after school program aims to expose students to a variety of sports and fitness related games and activities. Students will learn rules, techniques, and game play strategies. They will also develop positive communication skills, team building, and sportsmanship throughout their time in the Marshall Simonds Middle School intramural program.   This program is offered at no cost to any MSMS student. More details about the program will be communicated soon. If your child plans on participating, please complete this brief, pre-registration form.  This form will help us with programming and staffing.

Homework Clinic

Each year, Marshall Simonds Middle School offers Homework Clinic.  Homework Clinic is a quiet, supervised place for students to complete homework.  This is a fee based program and more specific details about the program will be communicated soon.   If you are interested in having your child participate in this fee based program, please complete this brief pre-registration form.
