Message from Principal Deb Dressler
Welcome back to a new school year! A long time ago someone shared this analogy. The summer is like a long weekend...the end of June is like Friday night, you have lots of energy to go out and it feels like you have all the time in the world to do the things you want with friends and family. July is like Saturday, you are excited to have two days left of the weekend and you finally relax into a pace that feels like it will never end. August is like Sunday. The end of the weekend when you realize the summer heat grows long and you might actually look forward to a cool September breeze and the desire to get back to a routine. Well… it’s almost Sunday evening!
Some news about our talented staff at Memorial School. We are so excited to welcome back Deanna Goggin, special educator, after the birth of her twin girls and Erica Farrand, second-grade teacher, after the birth of her triplets! Going out on maternity leave is Jenna Harlow, fourth-grade teacher. We are fortunate to have Annie White supporting her students till she returns in November. Also in fourth grade, Tara Olshaw will be taking a leave till October and Kara Doherty will be supporting her students. Both Annie and Kara are smart new educators who are well known to our students and staff working as permanent substitute teachers last year.
Unfortunately, some of our staff have moved onto other exciting opportunities. Andrew Deane, special education instructional assistant, got a fifth-grade teaching position in Melrose and Hannah Linstead-Atkinson, speech and language instructional assistant, is attending nursing school! Ginny Bucknam, a beloved reading tutor, retired to spend more time with her family. and Sally Sherman, a new tutor who brought great skill to her small group instruction, is taking time off to be with her two young children. Janet Cappola, our longtime PT at Memorial also retired to spend more time with her family. We wish them much success in their new adventures. They will be missed.
Onto some important information for the start of the school year.
