Practice Lock Down Drill Today

Today, we practiced a Lock Down Drill with the help of Officers Sheppard and Costa of the Burlington Police Department.  A real lock down occurs when we have a dangerous person or situation either inside or within the proximity of our building, and our priority is to Turn the Lights Off, Lock the Doors, and Get Out of Sight. We are required to practice a drill like this two or more times per school year.  Our teachers were aware of the drill ahead of time and were able to review these procedures with their students in advance and reassure them that student safety is always our number one priority and that is why we practice these situations.  For a greater challenge, the drill was purposefully planned during a moment of transition for the fifth graders.  We are proud to report the Police Department gave us gold stars for a well executed Lock Down Drill today and we are grateful for their support and training to help us be as prepared as possible in the event of an emergency.

Staff Goes Red for the American Heart Association! (with a little bit of Patriot Pride, too)

Solar System read-alouds by some fabulous grade 1 students, who delighted us with their stories about constellations in the night sky. Terrific job Deante and Lia!
