Dear Memorial School families,
I have been involved in public school education for almost 20 years. Typically there are maybe one or two pivotal moments in a lifetime that you remember where you were when it happened. Moments that remain frozen in time. For me, being in a school and watching the 911 attack on the news was what I thought would be my defining moment, yet here we are.
The Coronavirus has brought all of our routines to a stop. For those of us who are used to working outside the home, we are creating new work spaces in our homes and learning how to video conference to stay connected. For those of us who work in the home, we are sharing our spaces with more people! For those of us who work in Coronavirus “essential” jobs we are tired and overworked. Routines are important for kids AND grownups. As we navigate through this challenging time, please remember to take time for you. If you are like me, you need permission to put yourself first. Parents/guardians are so used to taking care of others that we forget to take care of ourselves. The oxygen mask analogy comes to mind...you first then others. I know most of the information you are receiving from the district is focused on your children but this message is for you. I wish you all a few moments of peace and calm each and every day until we return...and we WILL return!
I am trying to set up video conferences for parents to share their concerns with me. More to follow when I have a workable format. Check your emails for an invite later in the week.
I found this podcast helpful, I hope some of you will too.
