Need Feedback for Proposed Burlington Public Schools 2019-2020 Calendar

Dear Parents,

We have been asked to share the proposed Burlington Public School District calendar for 2019-2020 with our school community for feedback.  The attached version of the 2019-2020 is just a draft at this point and the School Committee would like to have a final version in late February or early March.

The biggest change in the 2019-2020 calendar is a move to only recognizing federal holidays. This would mean adding Good Friday, which falls on April 10 in 2020, as a school day. The addition of April 10 as a school day would also allow us to keep schools closed for two full weeks December 23-January 3 during our first school vacation and still have Friday, June 19 as our 180th day for students.

An additional change is scheduling our Parent Conference and Professional Development days on consecutive days in November rather than having them in different weeks and interrupting numerous weeks. This past November we did not have any full five-day weeks of school. The proposed 2019-2020 calendar gives us two five-day weeks during November.

Thank you in advance for your time in reviewing this draft. Please feel free to communicate feedback via this Google Form: https://goo.gl/forms/3TvX6CFjbpevT6t82.   Please do not hesitate to email me if you have any questions (jlyons@bpsk12.org).

With Warmest Regards,
