Do I need to register my student to ride the bus?
BPS provides free transportation to all district students to their home school free of charge. Registration for the bus is not necessary.
What time does my child need to arrive at the bus stop?
The stop times listed are approximate, it is recommended that students arrive at bus stops 5 to 10 minutes earlier than the listed stop sign.
The bus goes right by my house. Why can't it stop at my address?
School buses pass by many students’ homes on their way to school or other stop locations. Bus stops are placed at centralized locations that can be safely accessed by a significant number of students to minimize the time and length of the route. Please be reminded that each stop adds time to the route and that we work hard to reduce the time students are on the bus and strive to get the students to school and home in an acceptable amount of time. Bus stops are established by the school department in consultation with the school bus contractor, and as necessary, the Burlington Police Department Safety Officer. When determining bus stop locations, the district will consider all factors involved.
How do I request that a school bus stop be added or changed?
If you feel there is an extraordinary safety circumstance that would justify a reevaluation of the bus stop location, please send your concerns to [email protected]. Allow up to 10 days for careful consideration and review of your request and keep in mind the submission of a bus stop change request does not obligate the district to make the change. School bus routes for the upcoming school year are reviewed and are posted by the last week in August, therefore, bus stop changes are not made during the first month of school except to accommodate new students moving into the district. If the bus stop change is approved, parents or guardians of students will be notified of the changes and the start date. Please note that bus drivers are not allowed to make bus stop changes without approval from the school district.
What happens when there is a 2 hour delay to the start of school?
Messaging will be sent by phone and email from the Superintendent's Office with information. Transportation pick up time will be 2 hours later than scheduled time.
